Why Walk for Water?
WaterAid's vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and effective sanitation.
Over 1bn people worldwide have no access to clean water.
Over 2bn are without access to sanitation.
A child dies every 15 seconds from water related diseases.
In Africa and Asia women, children and the elderly are hit hardest by the lack of clean water and sanitation.
Women are generally responsible for collecting water for their families which in rural Africa often means
having to walk five miles or more to the nearest water source. When water becomes more scarce, this distance can double and it can take hours just to fill up one container. Then, when they have collected enough water for their family, they will start the long journey back home carrying their heavy water containers.
They walk every day. We'll do it once
